Saturday 9.30am to 11.30am and Sunday 9.30am to 11.30am.
No experience necessary – turn up for an hour or so if not a little longer, and help make some of the torches we will carry on The Fifth whilst getting to meet other SBS members.
For info, Saturday Torch-Making sessions at The Swan are likely to continue for a while, so that we can get ahead of ourselves rather than be left with a load of torches needing to be made at the last minute ( if weather turns against us over the coming weeks).
The lovely membership team will be there too, with the deadline looming. So, why not renew and whilst there purchase a programme. It’s all for the good of the society!
- Saturday 24th Sept, 8:30 – 11:30am at The Swan – Torch-making
- Saturday 24th Sept 9:00 – 11:30ish – Stick Notching, Johnny Marshall’s, Southover High Street (2,000 sticks to be done)
- Sunday 25th Sept 09:30 – 11:30 at The Swan – Torch-making
No experience necessary – turn up for an hour or so if not a little longer, and help make some of the torches we will carry on The Fifth whilst getting to meet other SBS members. Please note, notching only requires a few people, so if we get too many turn up at Johnny’s then Simon Monk may ask you to stroll along to The Swan and help out there instead.

Hope to see you at one of the sessions.

Many of you will recall that for the past few years we have had the privilege of using ‘Bob’s Bus’ for some of our outmeetings. This was very important for us because it helped cover the losses accrued from hiring the larger, more expensive Big Lemon buses.
Unfortunately, the charity which owned Bob’s Bus has had to close and we have to use a standard coach hire company. As a result we have found it impossible to keep last year’s prices and had to increase the cost of coach-based outmeetings as it would be unfair to expect non-outmeeting members to subsidize them.
The new cost of coach-based outmeetings is to increase from £10 to £15. It is hoped this will be a temporary measure until we find a better solution. The following outmeetings will be affected:
Mayfield 19th Sept
Ewhurst & Staplecross 29th Oct
Chailey 12th Nov
Robertsbridge 19th Nov
Hawkhurst 26th Nov
Rottingdean 3rd Dec
The following outmeetings don’t require coaches, so aren’t affected:
Eastbourne 1st Oct
Hastings 15th Oct
Neville 22nd Oct
Seaford 22nd Oct
South Heighton 12th Nov
Southover Outmeetings Team
Good turn out at torchmaking on Sunday morning. Some 300 torches were made on the 4th. However, as torchmaking camp was cancelled we are already behind on our quota. Next Saturday 10th September, there will be some additional torchmaking at the Swan, 8.30am – 11.30am, as well as the normal Sunday, 9.30am – 11.30am, as many members do come along and help, please. And many thanks to the Swan for their hospitality.
