Time to get costumed up

Last year we held our very first costume competition – a great success it was agreed!
Now it’s time for our 2nd SBS costume comp on Sunday 16th October, 6-8.30pm, Caffe Lazzati at Southdown Sports Club, Cockshut Road, Lewes.
This is a family friendly social event and a great opportunity to show off your latest costume, meet other members and take part in a very informal, friendly and fun competition.
There will be lots of stalls for buying new costumes and accessories, plus you can sell your own or donate if you want to bring them along.
Get your photograph taken, learn some face painting techniques, buy some SBS merchandise, 2016 programme and even get your membership renewed!
Helpers for this event are needed and so please contact Richard on 07840 166 947.
Plus, there’s a bar and Pizza served, lovingly made by our wonderful hosts, the Lazzatis!
SBS Costume Competition Categories
First and Second Pioneers in the following age groupings:
Infants 7 and under
Juniors 8-12s
Smugglers (all ages)
All entrants receive specially made costume competition badge, plus winners in junior and teens sections can become flag holders for the Children’s Procession/Marking the Boundaries. Sweets for everyone!
Children’s sections will be first and finished by 7.30pm, so parents can get younger children home for school the next day.

Torchmaking and renewals

Yup, more torchmaking jollies to be had on 15 and 16 October.
Come along to join in, meet fellow members and help us to prepare for an excellent Fifth.
Saturday’s torching will be between 8.30 and 11.30am at the Swan.
Also, there is the excellent Hastings out meeting later in the day, please message Simon Ingram ( if you fancy food either at the Jolly Fisherman in Hastings, or past 11pm at the Kings Head, Lewes.
Sunday’s torching is 9.30 to 11.30am and the lovely membership team will be there to take renewals. Again that is all taking place at The Swan.

Torchmaking and renewals

No experience necessary – turn up for an hour or so if not a little longer, and help make some of the torches we will carry on The Fifth whilst getting to meet other SBS members.
For info, Saturday Torch-Making sessions at The Swan are likely to continue for a while (from 8.30am to 11.30am, Sundays are 9.30am to 11.30am) , so that we can get ahead of ourselves rather than be left with a load of torches needing to be made at the last minute (if the weather turns against us over the coming weeks).
The lovely membership team will be there too, with the deadline looming. So, why not renew and whilst there purchase a programme. It’s all for the good of the society!
