Southover Open Gardens, Lewes
Sunday June 11
2.30pm to 5pm (several gardens open until 6pm)
Fancy spending a summer Sunday looking at secret gardens in the historic town of Lewes? Southover’s annual Open Gardens event offers a unique opportunity to do just that. There are a wide range of gardens to see, including several new ones, from large traditional English to small, more modern interpretations. Proceeds go to Southover Bonfire Society’s fireworks funds.
More than 12 gardens are on the trail. Highlights include the garden hiding behind an Edwardian terrace, originally laid out 100 years ago by the Martin sisters as a landscaped garden in the style of Gertrude Jekyll. This has been lovingly restored during the past 25 years.
Entry is by ticket only. Price £5 (concessions £3). Tickets available from the weekend of June 3/4 at The King’s Head, The Swan, St Pancras Stores, Union Music Store and The Tourist Information Centre in Lewes. Tickets also for sale at 6 Grange Gardens on the day.
